The holidays and the economy

  • Mood:

Well, yet another holiday season is upon us. As the owner of a wholesale shopping website, I have found that this year has been quite different from years past. Yes people are still going to shop, and yes they are still going to spend outside their limits. But this year is different. People are shopping for bargains now more than ever. I understand this because we all want a good deal. Heck, if I can find something cheaper in a store here in town, why would I buy from an online store? But this year, people have been doing a lot more shopping online. Why? Well gas could be one reason. My guess is time. It's much easier to sit at your computer desk in your robe, than it is to get dressed, load the kids, gas up the car, and then try and find a parking space at the mall. Not to mention the crowds! With the economy in the shape it's in. People losing jobs, and high grocery prices, it's no wonder everyone is holding on to those dollar bills a little tighter. Compound that with limited time, and you've got the perfect setting for the internet seller. I try to keep my prices lower than anyone else. Sometimes it's not possible, but if you can make their eyesbrows raise when they see your price for an item, you've got a good chance that they will either shop with you, or they will come back later. All in all, sales have been down this entire year for us here at HacksWholesale.com.

Welcome to our new blog. I just made the first entry and I look forward to reading everyone's blogs. Enjoy yourself and blog about anything you want. All I ask is be nice to each other. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

One thing I've learned in my 5 years of running this site, is that at the end of the day - if I've made just one customer happy it was a good day.

I've went through all of the trial and errors, and lost money along the way. They say it takes a business at least 5 years to start making money. That's if you survive for 5 years. I still can't say that I'm making much money, but I'm for sure doing better than when I started. There's one main lesson I've learned in this business - just get the cash! I read once from a very successful wholesaler, that your bank account doesen't care if it was a profit or not. All it knows is that there's money there. Even if you lose money on a sale, you are still getting back most - if not all of your money, and your bank account likes it just as much. For instance,if I buy a product for $5.00 and bought 15 of these for 75.00, and I sell it for $9.00 each, I'm making $4.00 a unit, and that doesen't sound like much money. But when you total that up, that's $135.00 in my pocket with a profit of $60.00. But let's say each of these pieces are similar, but come in different styles. At $9.00 each, I need to sell at least 9 of these to get my money back. So let's just say I sold 9, and I still have 6 left that are not as popular, and just can't seem to get rid of them, I come down on my price to my cost. Even though I'm not making any money on these last 6 pieces, it doesn't matter because I've already made my money back, so the rest is profit. I sell the last 6 at my cost, which is $5.00. 5 x 6 = $30.00 in my pocket. Get what I'm saying? Heck, even if I sold those last 6 pieces at BELOW my cost, I'm still going to make money. That's the bottom line - get the cash! I didn't make a whole lot of money on those pieces, but I have money to go get more and stay in business.

You have to look at it in a big picture. Go for volume sales instead of big profits. That's what has kept me online for the last 5 years. My prices are crazy low, but th

Ok, I rambled too much and ran out of space! HAHA!
As I was saying ... My prices are crazy low, but that's what people want. Heck, if I have to, I'll lose money on a sale just to make them happy. Because if you make them happy, they'll come back, and they just might bring a friend with them. :)
